Bio

Street and cityscape urban photography in Newcastle upon Tyne is a huge part of how I see and interpret the world around me. I’m drawn to the raw, unfiltered character of the city—its architecture, its streets, its quiet corners, and the constant movement of life passing through it. My work leans heavily into dark, moody monochrome, using black and white not just as a stylistic choice, but as a way to transform the ordinary into something far more atmospheric and cinematic.

By stripping away colour, I’m able to emphasise light, shadow, texture, and contrast. Everyday scenes take on a new depth—details that might otherwise go unnoticed become the focal point. The harsh lines of buildings, the soft glow of streetlights, reflections in wet pavement—everything feels more intentional, more dramatic, and more emotionally charged.

Cityscape and street photography aren’t just subjects to me—they’re a passion. I’m especially drawn to the rain, particularly in an urban environment. There’s something about wet streets and shifting weather that completely changes the energy of a place. Rain adds layers—both visually and emotionally. It softens some elements while intensifying others, creating a unique atmosphere that you simply can’t replicate in dry conditions.

The combination of rain and city light is where the magic really happens. Artificial light from street lamps, shop windows, passing cars, and neon signs interacts with the natural darkness in a way that feels almost cinematic. Surfaces come alive—roads gleam, pavements shimmer, and buildings reflect ambient light in subtle, unpredictable ways. The contrast between light and shadow becomes more pronounced, giving scenes a sense of depth and mood that feels almost like a still from a film.

In these moments, the familiar becomes unfamiliar. Streets I’ve walked countless times take on a completely different identity. What might seem ordinary in daylight transforms into something striking, mysterious, and beautiful. It’s in these conditions that I find the most inspiration—where atmosphere, light, and environment come together to create something visually powerful and emotionally resonant.

Ultimately, my photography is about capturing those fleeting moments where everything aligns—the weather, the light, the composition—and turning them into images that tell a story. A story of the city, of mood, and of seeing beauty in places that might otherwise be overlooked.

If you want, I can also tighten this into a punchy bio for your website or Instagram.
